🔥The End for TikTok?🧊 - This Week's Digital Trends
In this week's Hot or Not we look at Twitter, TikTok, and AI - the three recurring characters from the first three months of 2023. The more things change, the more stay the same.
Welcome back to the final installment of our digital trends newsletter Hot or Not - the weeks have gone by so quickly. I’ve greatly enjoyed taking you through trends in world of digital publishing over the last seven weeks. So for one final time, let’s take a look at what’s hot and what’s not this week.
🧊🔽 Twitter
The two major pieces of Twitter news this week concern verification. Come April First, Elon claims legacy verification will be no more. Make sure to check out our tips on what publishers should do. And now they’re adding the ability for Twitter Blue subscribers to hide their checkmark - because it’s embarassing??? Either way, this time next week there may be no more blue ticks.
🔥🧊🔽 TikTok
TikTok has been the centre of attention this week thanks to more bans, but mainly CEO Shou Zi Chew testifying before the US Congress. How it went depends entirely on who you ask. Some say it was less of a hearing and more of a telling-off. Others think TikTok came out after failing to answer satisfactory. Regardless of the truth, one thing in clear, many US lawmakers went in with the minds made up - TikTok should be banned.
🔥🔼 AI-Integrated Everything
What doesn’t have AI nowadays. Google have opened up Bard leading to comparisons between the AI search engines. Adobe have launched their own AI image generation - and this time it was trained on allegedly stolen content. Canva has integrated AI-powered design tools. And Vice is reporting on AI being used for Tinder. It’s a brave new artifical world out there, and we may not be ready for everything it has in stall.
